Avebury Stones

Avebury Stones

Brush up on your history of prehistoric Britain, get your camera ready and get away for a few days or the weekend by visiting English Heritage property, Avebury Stones in South West Wiltshire.

The most famous of these prehistoric sites is Stonehenge but Avebury henge is often overlooked and overshadowed by its close relative. Avebury is a Neolithic monument containing three stone circles and it contains the largest stone circle in Europe. It is both a tourist attraction as well as a place of religious importance to contemporary pagans.

Whether you want to visit out of season or on the highlight of the Solstice (June) or Equinox (December) you will take home some wonderful memories.

Avebury Manor and Gardens

Avebury Manor and Gardens is a National Trust property but with a difference – you can touch the exhibits! You can sit in the chairs, read a book, lie on the beds, play snooker or even get dressed like a Georgian! Adults and children alike will enjoy all Avebury has on offer. There are all sorts of events through the year. Guided tours, Nordic walking, yoga, walking challenges (see the website for details).

Enjoy lunch in the Circles Cafe or treat yourself to an scrumptious afternoon tea in the library of the Manor before setting off to the highly rated four star Cricketfield House to relax in the sunny courtyard or your luxury bedroom and enjoy that well deserved complimentary bottle of Prosecco you deserve.
